Stay With Us — Simple, Solid & Homely
At Karumba Point Service Station & Caravan Park, we keep things straight:
Big grassy sites. Room to move. Clean facilities. Easygoing vibes.
We offer powered and unpowered caravan sites spacious enough for rigs of all sizes — with a mix of shady, open-sky, and lagoon-side spots (hello solar and sunsets). Clean ensuite-style amenities for showers and toilets, and for those without vans, we’ve got two self-contained cabins that sleep up to four.
You won’t find a camp kitchen, fancy pool, or playground here — just wide spaces, friendly faces, and real-deal hospitality. Perfect for grey nomads, anglers, quiet adventurers, and practical travellers who prefer value over bells and whistles.

Why Karumba — And Why Now
If you’re chasing solitude, open skies, wild waters and a quiet place to recharge — Karumba hits different. It’s where the Gulf meets the outback, where genuine service still matters, and where people come for fishing, sunsets, peace, and a real Aussie road‑trip vibe.
So pull up, plug in, cast a line or sink a cold one — and feel like you’ve earned a break.
What Makes Karumba Special
-
Fishing Mecca & “Barradise” — Karumba is world‑renowned for its fishing: barra, threadfin, golden snapper and more. Anglers across Australia come here for a proper catch.
-
The Morning Glory Clouds — A rare meteorological phenomenon seen mostly in Burketown and Karumba, these long, rolling cloud formations stretch across the sky like giant scrolls. They arrive early in the dry season and are a sight you’ll never forget.
-
Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre - Get up close with one of Australia's most iconic fish. This hatchery and educational centre offers tours, feeding sessions, and a fascinating look at local conservation efforts.
-
Wildlife & Wetlands — Surrounded by mangroves, saltpans and tidal flats, Karumba is home to rich birdlife, including brolgas, jabirus, sea eagles and more. A birder’s dream.
-
Sunsets Over the Gulf — When the sky turns to fire and the water lies still, Karumba’s sunsets over the Gulf of Carpentaria are a slow exhale at the end of the world.
-
End of the Road — Karumba marks the end of the Matilda Way. It’s where travellers land after long, dusty stretches — a reward of sea air and stillness after the drive.
-
Normanton Day Trip - Just an hour inland, Normanton offers a dose of outback charm: ride the historic Gulflander Train for a heritage rail experience, or check out Krys the Croc, a life-sized replica of the largest croc ever recorded.
